Learn Guitar Online – Stamina and Hand Independence Guitar Exercises

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Many people learn guitar online nowadays, mostly because it’s much cheaper and comfortable then attending classes or having a tutor that does everything to spoil all the fun of learning this beautiful instrument. But, if you are to start learning guitar on your own there are several obstacles to overcome, at least in the beginning. Two of these impediments that any “young” guitarist that wants to learn guitar online must beat, are hand independence and stamina.

So firstly, I’m going to show some stamina improvement exercises, for those that chose to learn guitar online.

Metallica

As I play guitar just for amusement, not making a career out of it, I like to practice with my favourite songs. But practicing on certain songs, like “Master of Puppets” by metallica for example, brought me such pain in my picking wrist that I felt like throwing the guitar away. So, as I was looking for solutions, I found out that for guitar is not enough to practice on songs or chords, a certain workout is also necessary. The so called workout for guitar can be done in two ways. The first thing you can do is find a song or a part of a song that you can easily play, which brings a certain stress to your hands, arms and body. Even if you don’t like it, practice with this song until your muscles get used to it and you gain resistance. Another thing that can be done, even if this has nothing to do with playing a guitar, is to literally workout by lifting weights to improve your arm muscles. The more muscle you have, the more stamina you will get.

Learn Guitar Online – Stamina and Hand Independence Guitar Exercises

Also, it’s very important to know, that for playing guitar you need to find a position as comfortable as possible, to minimize the stress on every little muscle involved. You also might want to reconsider the shape or size of your instrument, because that might be as well, a cause to the pain during practice.

Another aspect anyone that wants to learn guitar online should consider, is hand independence.

Of course, not many have a very good independence, and to be honest, I was horrific at it, in the beginning. To improve your hand independence here’s what you should basically do. Firstly, identify your weaknesses and flaws and attack them directly. For this, it’s best to create your own exercises. For example, here are a few exercises that I used to practice with. Play the same line in unison with both hands, hold a bass note with the left hand while playing a piece with the right hand, adding new bass notes as you get better at it, but most important, as you construct your exercise, sit down and decide what exactly you want to hear from your guitar. If you have the whole piece condensed into your brain, it will be much easier.

I hope my exercises for stamina and hand independence helped with your guitar practice.

Get Show Tickets From a Ticket Broker

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

A ticket broker can save you time, money and energy when you are wanting to buy tickets for all sorts of events. Because you can purchase your tickets online, you can take your time to find the best deals. A credible ticket broker will ensure that your tickets arrive in proper time before the event and that you will get a refund of your money should the event be canceled and not rescheduled. Tickets are available for a wide variety of events, including show tickets.

There are a wealth of sporting event tickets available. You can choose from college basketball or football, major league baseball, NBA and NFL games, as well as other sports such as golf, hockey or tennis.

Metallica

If you like music, you might want to buy admission to several different concerts. Headliners such as Bruce Springsteen, Celine Dion, Elton John, James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett and metallica have concerts and musical events going on right now around the country.

Theatre goers can enjoy a wide variety of shows. Theatre is held all throughout the country at large regional theatres, so even if you are not in the thick of theatre in New York City, you can still see Broadway road shows that come to cities all over the country.

If you are going to be in New York, there is no better way to spend an evening than to take in a Broadway show. Plays can be either straight theatre with no singing, or they can be musicals that feature acting, singing and dancing. Both are available on Broadway. For a show to be considered a Broadway show, the theatre has to be in New York City and 500 seats or larger. Anything under 500 seats is known as Off-Broadway.

Show tickets are available from an online ticket broker for the perennial favorite musicals Chicago and Grease. Chicago features wonderful songs such as “All That Jazz” and “He Had It Coming,” while Grease transports the audience back to 1950s America with songs like “Hand Jive” and “We Go Together.” Because both of these musicals were made into movies, they are widely known and very popular; your ticket broker can set you up with either or both of these.

Disney made several cartoon movies that were subsequently turned into musicals. Your ticket broker can get you admission into shows such as The Little Mermaid and The Lion King, both known for their fabulous songs and glorious costumes and sets.

If you want to see a straight play, an online ticket broker has those as well. August: Osage County is a wildly popular dark comedy about a midwest family that has a reunion that dredges up some things the family might prefer to keep under wraps. A show broker can handle this and any other show that you might wish to see on Broadway or elsewhere in the country.

So What is Guitar Hero?

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

Have you ever played an “air guitar”?

I have.

Metallica

Many times when listening to my Sex Pistols, Sham 69, or Stranglers records (Yeh, I know, I’m showing my age now).

So What is Guitar Hero?

But playing the “air guitar” has often been looked upon as a bit “geeky”, yet it’s something most of us have done and still do.

Well, Guitar Hero brings the art of playing the air guitar literally screaming and kicking into the 20th Century and out of the closet.

Playing the air guitar is now actually seen as cool and hip, especially if your good.

I was first exposed to the game at my local Mall when I saw groups of teenagers round a video game machine thrashing away on a “guitar” shaped “instrument”.

So what is Guitar Hero?

In the “game” players flail away on guitar-shaped controller and try to replicate the moves of the guitarist playing a popular song.

In essence its a bit like guitar karaoke.

What makes it unusual and unique is it comes packaged with a guitar peripheral modeled after a black Gibson SG rather than using the console’s standard controller.

The game’s guitar has no strings; its fret board features five colored buttons that you press with your left hand as you hit a plastic strumming bar with your right.

Its appeal is in the ease of playing and “learning” to play the guitar to recreate your favorite bands and songs.

It “makes you feel like you’re a guitar player without having to practice for years and years,” says Ted Lange, an associate producer and in-house guitar expert at Red Octane, the company that makes “Guitar Hero.”

Published by Red Octane in partnership with Activision it has become a huge success and has achieved cult status already amongst its many loyal “followers”.

The development of Guitar Hero was inspired by Konami’s Guitar Freaks arcade game, which at the time had not seen much exposure in the North American market.

In total, four games have been released for video game consoles, while games have been released for mobile phones and the Nintendo DS hand held gaming system.

But I predict there is more to come as the game garners mass appeal.

The Heroes

Another popular element of the game is its characters, or the Guitar Heroes featured.

Each character has been given a rich and believable history making the characters more “real” and “alive”. Add to this some real Guitar Heroes such as “Slash” and suddenly the line between real and unreal becomes blurred.

Popular characters included Johnny Napalm, a punk rocker looking not to dissimilar to Sex Pistols lead singer Johnny Rotten.

Then there’s God of Rock, Axel Steel (any guesses to his “true identity?), Izzy Sparks, Slash, Judy Nails, Lou, and metalhead to name a few.

What makes it different?

Guitar Hero is different because guitar playing is seen as a showy and flashy thing to do.

It’s always been revered and the worlds top guitarists are adored and emulated by their millions of fans who aspire to play like them.

Everyone has, at some time, played the “air guitar” usually locked away in your bedroom with just you and your records.

This is what has given the game its mass appeal and popularity.

It has tapped into this and dragged the practice of playing the air guitar out into the open and made it mainstream and “acceptable”.

Add to that alcohol, members of the opposite sex, or the same sex, and it becomes like going to a party in your parents’ basement

In New York Guitar Hero nights have quickly become a hit in some bars and pubs and competitions are a regular event.

In fact McFarlane Toys, makers of the Guitar Hero action figures, recently sponsored a Guitar Hero competition prior to the metallica concert at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Ariz.

The competition was open to everyone and took place near the fountains adjacent to Jobing.com Arena on the huge video board.

There were loads of cool prizes given away, including t-shirts, Guitar Hero video games and McFarlane’s own Guitar Hero action figures.

There is already a huge amount of merchandising surrounding the game with custom guitar consoles, soundtracks, statues and now action figures.

McFarlane Toys, one of the USA’s biggest toy manufacturers, has announced that they have signed a deal in partnership with Activision to produce action figures based on the hit video game.

Some of the most popular characters in Guitar Hero are to be represented in McFarlanes series of Guitar Hero’s action figures and they will even be producing packs of individual, customizable guitars for them.

So it looks like 2009 could be the year to brush the dust off your air guitar break out that old pair of torn jeans and t-shirt and head to the local Mall.

If you haven?t seen or heard of Guitar Heroes yet you will.

Because, with the right marketing and product placement I predict this could become as big as Karaoke was in the 80?s.

Until next time

Keep rockin’ :-)

Hindi Rock – How it Survived

Friday, February 24th, 2012

Hindi rock emerged on the Indian music scene with gusto soon after the advent of globalization. The face of changing India embraced the hard, edgy and new sounds it had to offer, though there were many critics who found this new genre to be something which was too radical and was a far cry from the traditional classical Indian sound, rock soon found a leeway into mainstream Hindi music. The youth though, still hung-over with the more mushy and bubble gum pop of the 1980s and 1990s, found this new sound raw and exciting. Since then it has come a long way, it continues to evolve and nowadays no Hindi movie is devoid of a tune that is inspired by Hindi rock.

The concept of an ‘Indian Rock God’ so often used on reality shows is an example of how far rock music has come. Rock bands like Junoon, Euphoria and the likes are considered stalwarts of the genre and they always seem to reinvent themselves with new sounds that resonate with the youth in India. The youth have always been ardent fans of western rock with metallica, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith forming just a few of the bands that have influenced rock music in India. This love for western rock has subsequently given further impetus to the rise and the popularity of rock in Indian vernacular, as the sounds are quite similar to those from the West.

Indian rock finds itself in safe hands with a host of new upcoming artists who are trying to reinvent the genre to make it more acceptable to a wider audience however they have never let the edge disappear from this sound thus maintaining the authenticity of the style of music. The 21st century saw a surge in the popularity of hip hop and rap music; however in India, rock still has a wide selling market where rock groups are leaving no chances to capitalize on the popularity of Hindi rock.

Anvil! The Story of Anvil – DVD Review

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Before 1970 blues had been the musical basis for most successful rock bands, and from that point forward the blues bands expanded into all sorts of progressive directions. Recording techniques became more layered and advanced; musical styles became more and more complex as bands experimented in classical and jazz fusions; songs were routinely more than 7 minutes long. Then, in the late 1970’s, punk burst into the mainstream, sharply reversing the trend toward complexity. metal was a genre that grew out of the blues-based rock bands of the past. It got a jolt of energy, however, when punk hit. The combination of the extremely loud and fast playing of American hardcore punk with metal beats and riffs came to be known as Thrash, or Thrash Metal.

The title of the new documentary, Anvil! The Story of Anvil, seems at first hearing to be that of a work of mockumentary fiction, possibly directed by Rob Reiner. Actually, while their drummer’s name is Robb Reiner, Anvil is a real band, and apparently they were one of the very first, if not the first Thrash Metal band. Anvil had their biggest commercial success in the first half of the 80’s. By 1986, however, the “Big Four” (Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeath, and Slayer) had taken what they learned from the scene and adapted it to achieve mainstream success. Anvil, meanwhile, failed to connect with a mass audience, and quickly became the victims of an unfortunate contract and their own unwillingness to change their sound to appeal to wider audiences.

Metallica

This is the background for the story of Anvil’s Steve “Lips” Kudlow (vocals, lead guitar) and Robb Reiner (drums), out of Toronto. The documentary picks them up 28 years, and 16 albums, later. After all these years, Lips and Robb are still playing in small clubs for maybe 20 to 30 people a night. In stark contrast to the Big Four of Thrash Metal, Lips and Robb have to work blue collar jobs to support themselves and their families, but continue to play because of their love and passion for the music. Lips is philosophical about his band’s misfortunes because it’s that or tear his hair out, which of course is out of the question for metalheads.

Anvil! The Story of Anvil – DVD Review

In the hopes of turning their fortunes around, Anvil sets out on a European tour, put together by a dedicated fan, which turns out to be pretty disastrous. Lips flips out one night in Prague when they get paid in soup, and another night Robb refuses to play to an empty room. The frustration on their faces is heartbreaking. Soon we’re rooting for Lips and Robb as honest, hardworking folks who haven’t gotten the breaks in life. They search for validation, so that they can feel like the lifetime of work they each put into Anvil wasn’t a waste.

After the tour, Lips remains steadfast while Robb seems more discouraged. They soon get another shot to prove themselves, as they get a call to work on a new record with Chris Tsangerides, who produced their biggest successes of the early 80’s. Lips tears up in an interview before the recording, proclaiming in desperation, “We’re gonna do it!” as if through sheer will alone they can achieve success. During the recording process itself, a lifetime of frustration brings the relationship between best friends Robb and Lips to a breaking point, only to see them find renewed faith in one another through the mutual strife.

While we identify with the search for validation for a lifetime of work, it becomes clearer as the film progresses, and their pursuit of major label contracts is met with rejection after rejection, that there is something insanely delusional about their persistence. They’re stubbornly committed to the musical style they helped originate, regardless of its current marketability. While the filmmakers and fans might regard this stubbornness with admiration, their wives have a more sobering take. As Robb’s wife frustratingly tells us, “It’s too bad no one’s living in the real world. It’s a joke. It’s a joke.”

With the critical success of the Anvil documentary film, the band has enjoyed the biggest success of their careers. Now they play sellout festivals before thousands of people all the time. While you root for the guys because of their personal stories, one can’t escape the conclusion that their newfound success was a result of the film’s impact and the sympathy it generates from the viewer, and not in any way related to their songwriting. In all honesty, I think Anvil sounds terrible. It doesn’t help that the music in the film is largely centered on the plodding and uninspiring track “Metal on Metal” which fails to convey whatever musical innovations put them on the map in the early 80’s. Most of the live performances by Anvil in the film are cut short, which is frustrating and suspicious. Their musical worthiness is never really proven, nor is it really the point. They make low art but they’re proud of it. We can applaud them because they’ve always been true to themselves, and they’re getting credit for that. They finally caught a break.
